Miwok Grinding HolesThe Miwok people settled on this land many centuries ago and possessed a great understanding of God’s natural world. All resources were used with care and thanksgiving so they would continue to be available, and utilized fully.
Take a self-guided search for ancient grinding holes (“chaw’se”) – in seven locations at Mount Zion Biblical Garden – where women of the Miwok tribe once ground edible plants, acorns and seeds. Hint: To find the seven grinding holes, look out for the large flat limestones outcropping in the meadow. |
